    Easy Skillet S’mores

Want to experience a delicious campsite treat without leaving home? Try my amazing and easy, skillet s'mores recipe to take you back to those nights around the fire enjoying the great outdoors.

Skillet s'mores stacked on a plate.

Everyone loves a smoky s'more from time to time, especially when they're out camping. Not everyone can just get up and head for the hills whenever they want, though. Tragically, this makes it seem like s'mores are out of reach.

That is, until today. This recipe for skillet s'mores will take you back to those great memories and great flavors without leaving home. It's a great way to satisfy that craving when a campfire is out of the question. Another advantage is you can cook multiple s'mores all at once.

For something a little different, I like to dip them into chocolate instead of sandwiching it between the crackers (I have instructions for both ways). If you love chocolate as much as I do, you'll also love my chocolate caramel bars and gourmet dark chocolate truffles.

    Ingredients

These simple skillet s'mores require only 3 ingredients:

    • graham crackers - Sweet, flavored crackers made with graham flour--a classic S'more ingredient.
    • dark chocolate - You can also use milk chocolate if preferred.
    • marshmallows - This recipe uses the large marshmallows but the color and flavor is up to you. I've used maple flavor, which is nice. You could also use jumbo marshmallows and then you only need one per skillet s'more.

How to Make S'mores in a Skillet

    Colored marshmallows on graham crackers.

Step 1. Melt the marshmallows: Heat a skillet to low on the stove. Place 8 of the graham wafer crackers into the skillet and then add two marshmallows on top of each. Cover the skillet with a lid (or foil if you don’t have a lid for your skillet) and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the marshmallows begin to melt.

Step 2. Cover and flip: Place the other 8 crackers on top of the marshmallows, carefully flip them and cook for another minute. Reserve on a baking rack.

Step 3. Melt the chocolate: Place the chocolate in a glass bowl and melt it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir it. Continue microwaving it in 20 second intervals and then stirring each time, until fully melted.

Pro Tip: The chocolate may not look melted right away, but it becomes smooth when stirring, so make sure not to skip the stirring step.

Step 4. Dip and serve: Dip the s’mores halfway into the melted chocolate. Place them on a rack and let them sit until the chocolate hardens or enjoy right away!

    Tips & Serving Suggestions

S'mores don't have to be reserved exclusively for the campground. If you follow my convenient skillet recipe for s'mores, you'll be eating some of these tasty treats in no time all from your couch. They can also be made in an electric skillet on low.

Thanks to the low and even heating this method provides, you won't be left with a hard, ruined marshmallow like you've likely endured when you tried microwaving them in the past. As long as you can keep the heat within the right temperature range (low heat), you shouldn't have to fear burning the marshmallow like you do in a more traditional cooking method.

If you're looking for a slightly more traditional experience with a slab of chocolate instead of melted, it's perfectly easy to switch things up for that:

    1. Before flipping your s'more, place a square of chocolate on top of the marshmallow and then top with the graham wafer.
    2. Flip it and continue toasting. Just be careful not to walk off as the chocolate might start to melt out the sides of the s'more onto the skillet if you let it go too long.
    3. Once the chocolate is slightly melted, you can take them out of the pan and serve your skillet s'mores.

    Recipe FAQs

    Why are they called S'mores?

The term "s'more" is derived from the words "some more" because you're definitely going to want some more once you try one.

Can you use any chocolate for s'mores?

Sure. While milk chocolate is a classic choice, you can definitely give dark or flavored chocolate a try.

What is the perfect marshmallow for s'mores?

For the most part, a marshmallow is a marshmallow, but you can actually find 'campfire' brand marshmallows in the grocery store that are nice and puffy. Jet Puffed marshmallows are also popular for s'mores. In terms of size, I like to use large or jumbo to get a nice amount of that inner marshmallow goo that s'mores are known for.
