These baked turnip fries are deliciously spiced and pair well with the creamy, yogurt dipping sauce. They are an excellent low-starch and low-calorie alternative to traditional potato French fries.
These turnip French fries are made with simple seasonings and an herbaceous, lemon-garlic dip that complements them perfectly. I like to serve them to my kids with these homemade fish sticks.
You could also serve them with a variety of dips for guests including beer cheese dip, ranch dressing dip and my restaurant copycat honey dill dipping sauce.

Tips on Selecting Your Turnips
Turnips are known for being a bit spicy, but roasting turnips mellows out their taste significantly. The hakurei turnip is one of the mildest varieties but can be on the smaller side, so they won’t work well for fries.
The purple top white globe turnips are widely available and should be easy to locate in the produce area of any grocery store. They can get quite large so you should have no problem finding suitable ones for these fries.
How to Make Turnip Fries
Step 1. Prepare the turnip fries. Preheat the oven to 450°F. Add the turnip sticks to a large bowl and toss with the olive oil. Add the oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Toss until the turnips are evenly coated with the spices. Transfer the turnips to a large baking sheet and spread them out.
Step 2. Bake in the preheated oven. Bake for about 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, stirring halfway through, or until golden brown.
Step 3. Make the dip. For the dip, mix the yogurt, dill, garlic and lemon juice together. Season with some salt and pepper.
Step 4. Serve. Garnish the fries with the chives and serve with the dip!
Serving Suggestions
Feel free to experiment with adding additional dip flavors as you see fit. You could combine some chipotles and Greek yogurt for a spicy chipotle sauce, test out my easy slow cooker buffalo chicken dip or even use a barbecue sauce or a kimchi mayo dip.
These turnip French fries make an excellent snack on their own or could be used as a side for a larger meal. Adding cheese and other toppings would make it a whole meal, just like I do with my kimchi French fries.
Some main dishes to serve them with include chicken fried hamburgers, pork kebabs or a blackened chicken burger.
Turnip Fries FAQs
You can store any leftover dipping sauce in a sealed container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. The fries can be stored covered in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Reheat the fries in the oven at 400°F on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet to restore crispiness.
They have a mild, slightly peppery flavor but when roasted become sweet and earthy and can mimic the taste and texture of potatoes.
Peeling and roasting the fries helps with the bitter flavor but some people might still taste a hint of bitterness.
