I will show you how to grill pineapple slices perfectly so you can make your favorite foods even more delicious. The slices become caramelized, smoky and even sweeter, making them the perfect sweet addition to your barbecue.
Whisk the orange juice, honey and ginger together in a small bowl.
Place the pineapple slices inside a resealable bag, and pour the marinade inside. Seal the bag and let it sit to marinate for at least 2 hours (so that the pineapple really absorbs the juice).
Heat the grill to medium heat, leaving one side off for indirect heat. Place the pineapple slices on the direct heat side of the grill. Cook them until you see grill marks on the bottom (it will take around 10 minutes).
Flip them over, brush with the marinade and grill for another 10 minutes, or until they are softened and have grill marks on both sides.
They can be kept warm on the indirect heat side of the grill until serving time. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Gas grill: Heat grill to medium. Turn off half of the burners for an indirect and direct heat source.
Charcoal: Heat the coals of the grill and place them on one side of the barbecue, to have a zone of direct heat and another of indirect heat in order to have an area to keep the pineapple warm after grilling.
Prepping the pineapple. Use a pineapple corer to peel, core and slice your pineapple quickly and easily!
Slice size. If you're using the slices to add to sandwiches and burgers, try to keep your slices on the thinner side so they don't elevate the height of your sandwich too much.
Serving: Serve the pineapple slices as a snack on their own, on top of ice cream or as a side for grilled proteins like burgers, ribs, steak and kebabs. You can also add them to sandwiches, tacos and burgers.
Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 5 days.
