Electric Skillet Chocolate-Hazelnut Stuffed French Toast
We love French toast and we love Nutella in my house so I combined these two goods in delicious ways with this recipe for electric skillet French toast stuffed with chocolate-hazelnut spread.
Spread some chocolate hazelnut spread over one slice of French bread and cover with the other slice. Press them together with your hands. Repeat with remaining slices of bread.
8 slices French baguette, ½ cup chocolate hazelnut spread
In a bowl, mix together the eggs, milk and white sugar.
4 eggs, ¼ cup milk, 4 teaspoons white sugar
Soak the sandwiches in the egg mixture, until they have absorbed the liquid on both sides.
Melt the butter in the skillet. Add the sandwiches and cook for around 2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
2 tablespoons butter
Serve topped with fresh berries or apple slices and powdered sugar, if desired.
Notes
The type of milk you use for French toast can influence the texture and flavor of the dish:
Whole milk is the most commonly used type of milk for French toast. Its higher fat content adds richness and creates a creamy custard mixture.
Half-and-half or heavy cream will make the French toast even richer and creamier.
2%, 1% or skim milk will result in a lighter French toast.
Cover leftover French toast and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheat in the skillet over medium to medium-low heat, flipping once, until heated through. You can also microwave them for a short time but they won't retain their crispiness.
