Flavor, appearance, and even just the way it's served make it feel like more of an experience than a drink at times. This hibiscus tea cosmopolitan is a unique take on the classic with the same red appearance but a more floral rather than fruity flavor experience.
Heat the water and infuse the tea for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag and let it cool.
¾ cup water, 1 bag hibiscus tea
Add the vodka, hibiscus tea, triple sec and some ice to a large cocktail shaker. Optional: Add a touch of simple syrup if you like it sweet. Shake it well.
8 ounces vodka, 3 ounces triple sec
Alternatively, if you don't have a large cocktail shaker, combine the ingredients in a pitcher. It can be chilled in the fridge or add some ice when serving.
Pour into each martini glass and serve with a cherry.
Notes
For tea, it's better to use hot water than boiling water as it's more gentle on the tea leaves and will extract more flavor.
To speed up the cooling of the tea, transfer it to the fridge.
While it's best served within a few hours of brewing, you can make this drink ahead of time and chill it in the fridge for up to two days.
For an alternative garnish, try some hibiscus flowers in syrup. You could even use the syrup from the jar instead of a simple syrup.
