I will show you exactly how to bake brie cheese in the oven with some delicious toppings in about 15 minutes. Brie's creamy texture and its nutty, even earthy, flavor makes it an instant crowd favorite.
Pre-heat oven to 180°C/350°F. Place the brie cheese in the cast iron skillet.
1 wheel brie cheese
Add the mushrooms and walnuts. Drizzle with the honey and sprinkle with some fresh oregano leaves.
½ cup sautéed mushrooms, ¼ cup walnuts, 2 tablespoons honey
Bake in the preheated oven until slightly melted - around 10 minutes. Garnish with a few more oregano leaves if desired and serve with crackers.
Notes
Crackers and toast points are two common options for dipping, though pretzel chips or sliced vegetables work just as well. Apples and pears offer a sweet bite to contrast the savory nature of the cheese. A tasty fruit jam or sliced pepperoni are also great combined with brie.
For optimal results, you will need a small, well-seasoned cast iron pan or small baking dish to ensure even heating and no sticking. You don't want it to be too much larger than the cheese or it can spread out too much.
Choose high-quality, properly aged brie to get the rich flavor your guests will enjoy. Ideally, the brie should have a powdery-white rind with a creamy yellow interior.
If purchasing by the wedge, you want the inside of the brie cheese to have a satiny sheen to it. If purchasing a round, look for one that is soft but not runny. Avoid brie with a rind that has dark spots, cracks, or is overly dry, as these can be signs of age or improper storage.
The baked brie can sit at room temperature for no longer than 2 hours. It needs to be refrigerated at this point.
It is unnecessary to remove the rind from the brie. Not only is it edible but it adds an earthy flavor.
To store leftovers, cover the brie in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to three days. It can be reheated in the microwave, pan or oven. I don't recommend reheating it more than once because the texture deteriorates and it can become quite greasy.
Make ahead tip: You can assemble the brie with the toppings up to 1 day in advance in the baking dish. Keep it covered well in the fridge until you are ready to bake it.
