This mac and cheese flavored ice cream is something new and exciting for you to try! No ice cream maker is needed for this recipe and it only uses 4 ingredients.
Did you ever think you’d cool down on a hot day with a bowl of mac and cheese? I personally love this KD in dessert-form.
While it does sound weird to mix ice cream with savory comfort food, you may be pleasantly surprised by its iconic, creamy, cheesy flavor resembling the dinner food we grew up on.
You may have seen this flavor in grocery stores, but it’s very easy to make at home without any special tools, so why not give it a try?

🍦Ingredients
- heavy cream - whipping cream also works
- sweetened condensed milk - to sweeten the ice cream and add silky smooth texture by helping to prevent large ice crystals
- Kraft dinner cheese powder - remove the packets from the box of KD and save the macaroni noodles for another use
- turmeric powder - to add some extra color to the ice cream

🥣How to Make it
Making this mac and cheese ice cream is very easy! It's the same process as my strawberry shortcake no churn ice cream but with a different flavor and no add ins. Its texture is smooth and velvety.
Step 1. Whip. Place a 9”×5” loaf pan in the freezer while you make the ice cream. Whip the heavy cream in a large bowl with an electric hand mixer, until stiff peaks form.
Step 2. Combine cheese powder with milk. Whisk the sweetened condensed milk with the cheese powder and turmeric in a separate bowl, until the powder is dissolved. It will be thick.
Step 3. Combine. Slowly add the mixture into the whipped cream and continue to whip until it is fully incorporated.
Step 4. Freeze. Spread the mixture out into the loaf pan and cover with a piece of parchment paper. Return to the freezer for at least 6 hours, until frozen.
Step 5. Serve. To serve, scoop into bowls and enjoy! You can also scoop it into ice cream cones!
👩🏻🍳This is already a crazy idea; why not take it a step further and check out my tutorial for how to make mochi ice cream? You can choose any flavor ice cream you like--mac and cheese flavor included.
🧀Macaroni and Cheese Flavors
If you want to get even more adventurous with this ice cream, there are a variety of mac and cheese flavors that you can test with this recipe. I haven’t tried them yet, but I imagine some would be just as good as the original flavor, others not so much:
- sharp cheddar
- white cheddar
- extra creamy
- spicy
- three cheese
If you do try one of these flavors out, let me know how it tasted! I personally like a kimchi flavored mac and cheese, although I haven't seen that in powder form as of yet.
❓Recipe FAQs
Keep the ice cream chilled in the freezer for up to 3 to 6 months. The texture may alter over time so it is best if eaten in this timeframe.
This ice cream brings the same buttery, slightly sweet taste you know from Kraft's powdered cheese. It takes you back to one of your most loved childhood food memories. Although the name of it can turn people off immediately, cheese in desserts is not an uncommon combination.
