Can you Freeze Canned Pumpkin Pie Filling?

Yes, you can! Leftover pumpkin pie filling can be frozen for up to 3 to 4 months. Just make sure to transfer it to a freezer safe container or zip-top bag first.

What is the Difference Between Pumpkin Purée and Pumpkin Pie Filling?

The only difference between pure pumpkin purée and pumpkin pie filling is the pie filling has been pre-sweetened and pre-spiced and sometimes color/vegetable oil has been added as well.

Can You Use Pumpkin Pie Mix Instead of Pumpkin Purée?

The good news is you can use pumpkin pie mix in place of pumpkin purée in sweet dishes. Because the filling is already sweetened, you would not want to use it in savory dishes. The trick to using it in sweet recipes is to leave out the extra spices that the recipe calls for, since they are already in the can.

Interestingly enough, we found it hard to find pumpkin pie filling as an ingredient in our search for ways to use it up in other ways besides pie. However, as we explained above, simply omit the pumpkin pie spices (ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice) in the recipe and use the filling in place of the purée in these delicious, fall-themed recipes below!

Recipes With ¼ Cup Pumpkin Pie Filling or Less

If you have ¼ cup or less pumpkin pie filling leftover, check out these delicious autumn-inspired recipes. Remember, if the recipe calls for purée, use the pie filling but omit the pumpkin pie spices from the recipe.
